We have handled, among others, the IEA authorisation process for the Saras Group’s Sarlux refinery, the first refinery in Italy to have obtained this authorisation.

The Integrated Environmental Authorisation (IEA), which authorises operation of a plant, is governed by European legislation on integrated pollution prevention and reduction. The authorisation sets out all the requirements and emission limits to be met by the industrial facility.

The key aim of the Directive is to make a comparative assessment of the various environmental compartments and to unify authorisation procedures, thus preventing separate approaches to the control of air, water and soil emissions from encouraging the transfer of pollution from one environmental compartment to another, focusing instead on protecting the environment as a whole.

The overarching aim of the Strategic Environmental Assessment (SEA) is to promote sustainable local development and ensure a careful approach to planning that takes a long-term view. The SEA procedure applies specifically to local development plans and programmes, and is an integral part of their adoption and approval process.

EMAS (Eco-Management and Audit Scheme) is a voluntary EU scheme addressed to companies and public bodies, to help them assess and improve their environmental performance and to offer stakeholders and the public information on their environmental management.

Organisations that join the EMAS scheme must also prepare and publish an Environmental Declaration, which serves both as an environmental performance report and a policy document.
