ENVIRONMENTAL COMPLIANCE

The environmental compatibility of production activities is increasingly a condition for their very continuation, not only on account of regulatory compliance requirements,
but also because improved environmental performance and more efficient production processes
reduce operating costs
(waste disposal, process water treatment, lower consumption of water, raw materials and energy, etc.)
and improve the environmental compatibility of productions.

We provide
consultancy services to
identify the environmental regulatory requirements applicable to the company and analyse its present compliance status;

we support companies
in authorisation or planning processes;

most importantly,
we plan and develop solutions to improve environmental performance, mainly through the adoption of the Best Available Techniques.

Resource efficiency is a key principle for the sustainability of production activities.

OUR SERVICES

Thanks to our multidisciplinary competencies in the process industry (oil refining, chemical, metalworking, food, etc.), in monitoring activities, in the handling of authorisation procedures, we are able to offer a complete package of services for:

Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA)

Integrated Environmental Authorisation (IEA)

Strategic Environmental Assessment (SEA)

Environmental management systems ISO 14000 and Eco-Management and Audit Scheme (EMAS)

Environmental due diligence

Identification of the Best Available Techniques to improve environmental performance, optimise existing processes and boost energy efficiency

Drafting of environmental monitoring and control plans

Our turnkey service means
we can handle all the activities and requirements for implementing Monitoring and Control Plans (relating to EIA/IEA)

Through the joint action
of our laboratory (certified by ACCREDIA) with our environmental engineering unit, we verify constantly the quality of results and assess them carefully to identify opportunities for improving environmental performance

We support our clients in preparing the technical documentation for Environmental Impact Studies (EIS), required for the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) procedure. We also assist in authorisation management and in dealings with the competent authorities and control agencies.

Our studies and consultancies cover:

  • characterisation of contaminated sites and environmental modelling (simulations, scenarios and forecasts)
  • risk analysis
  • territorial information systems and management of complex environmental models up to the creation of Decision Support Systems (DSS) for environmental and land use planning
  • design of environmental management systems
  • design and optimisation of environmental control systems and environmental monitoring plans in complex areas and industrial sites
  • identification of the Best Available Techniques (BAT) to improve environmental performance, optimise existing processes and boost energy efficiency
  • development of information systems for managing environmental monitoring data and of commercial environmental modelling software, to be integrated with each other and with GIS, CAD, and Web applications.

We support our clients in preparing the application for the Integrated Environmental Authorisation (IEA). We also assist in the management of authorisations and in dealings with the competent authorities and control agencies.

We have handled, among others, the IEA authorisation process for the Saras Group’s Sarlux refinery, the first refinery in Italy to have obtained this authorisation.

The Integrated Environmental Authorisation (IEA), which authorises operation of a plant, is governed by European legislation on integrated pollution prevention and reduction. The authorisation sets out all the requirements and emission limits to be met by the industrial facility.

The key aim of the Directive is to make a comparative assessment of the various environmental compartments and to unify authorisation procedures, thus preventing separate approaches to the control of air, water and soil emissions from encouraging the transfer of pollution from one environmental compartment to another, focusing instead on protecting the environment as a whole.

We offer complete studies, technology problem solving, analysis of process critical points and solutions and operating management.

The overarching aim of the Strategic Environmental Assessment (SEA) is to promote sustainable local development and ensure a careful approach to planning that takes a long-term view. The SEA procedure applies specifically to local development plans and programmes, and is an integral part of their adoption and approval process.

We support our clients in preparing the technical documentation required for EMAS registration and in liaising with the competent authorities and control agencies.

EMAS (Eco-Management and Audit Scheme) is a voluntary EU scheme addressed to companies and public bodies, to help them assess and improve their environmental performance and to offer stakeholders and the public information on their environmental management.

Organisations that join the EMAS scheme must also prepare and publish an Environmental Declaration, which serves both as an environmental performance report and a policy document.

EIS - ENVIRONMENTAL INFORMATION SYSTEMS

Integrated management of environmental monitoring data is a key task in the daily operation of industrial plants for two main reasons:
it provides a real-time picture of the facility’s environmental compliance and it helps to optimise the production cycle.

We have partnered with

Techedge and GreenHeadLight

to offer a software solution that supports production activities
in handling all monitoring data
and in reporting to control agencies and the competent authorities.

Differently from similar products on the market, our solution is also a Decision support system for assessing the best production arrangements to optimise output within regulatory constraints.
